What is good Styling gel product for black people? What is a good relaxer for people who dye their hair.?

Every time I try spike my hair out with hair gel, my hair gets nappy and poofy. What can I do. Every time I relax my hair it turns into a bright brown color. My hair is naturally dark brown/black. I don't know what to do.
