Does hair styling gel hurt hair on the long run?!?

Does alcohol-free gel hurt hair on the long run? On the contrary, is there a gel u know of that holds and, at the same time, nutrizes hair? Thanks in advance:)

1. any gel or chemical treated things harm the hair on long run.... best is to apply water or any hair repair serums... may be like livon or something.. gel used occasionally is okay but see to it that you wash it off as soon as you are back home
