What are the best tasting energy bars or gels?
Just thought I'd throw it out there and ask some opinions on what you like for energy bars, drinks, gels, etc.. I do trail riding on rides that last 2-4 hours. Working up to some longer rides. What's your favourite?

- I like Gu gel and this new energy drink called ZYM. Good stuff. ZYM is supposed to be great for cramping.
- I like Clif Shot Bloks. They come in a wide variety of tasty flavors, you can order them online, they're a nice compact source of calories, there's no mess, but most importantly I find the packs easy to deal with while riding. I cut or tear off one corner and stick the pack in a back pocket before starting out - very easy then to grab it and squeeze out a block or two without even slowing down.
- power bars are really good...
- Clif Bars. I find the GU gels to be effective but awful in taste and texture. I don't like the taste or texture of PowerBars, either. HTH
- This is very subjective, but I like Powerbar gel. I only buy the vanilla flavor because it's bland and goes down easily. My favorite drink is Fierce Grape Gatorade. Again, however, this is very personal. Gels are much easier to swallow while riding hard than bars. I do like a number of the Clif bars, especially the Carrot Cake flavor. I wouldn't bother to take anything to eat on any ride of two hours or less. Eat before you leave. You'll have plenty of gylcogens to hammer for two or more hours. I ride a lot more road than mountain, and notice that in this part of the world a lot of mountain bike riders are overweight. No so for roadies, and it's the mountain bike riders I see eating bars and drinking sweet liquids.
- Hammer products are really good. They are well researched and effective. They suggest Perpetuem for 2-4 hour workouts. Their gel works well too. They have lots of products. Try them. www.hammernutrition.com
