Can I use fruit of the loom gel to straighten my hair using hair?

straightener. I want to put some fruit of the loom regular hair gel on my hair and use the hair straightener to straighten it on top of that. Can i use it this way? Would it protect my hair from heat?

1. Put some petroleum and salt in your hair, set the straightener to max and use it. It works wonders.
