How do i get a spiky or messy hairstyle using hair gel ?

My hair is dark brown and is about 1 inch long and its a bit thin. I have hair gel but I have no clue on how to use it. Can you please suggest some not very spiky and some messy hairstyles for my hair ?

1. Rub the gel between your hands and start from your neck up, brushing your fingers through your hair, if that's to spiky for you try the gel between your hands and starting at the top of ears brush it up and over to the centre of your head, just play around with it. :)

3. Just put the gel in your hands and rub it in your hair like you're putting shampoo in it.
