What is the best hair gel/products for long hair?

I want to keep my hair back, it's a bit past my shoulders and I am tired of having it to the side. Oh and I was wondering if I keep my hair back with gel/product if it will start staying back on it's own.

1. Hm, I don't use gel products because I'm wary of the stickiness. I've noticed that my hands get too sticky and hair gets pulled out, haha. I also have long hair. I usually set it in the style I want it and wet my hair. If I'm putting it in a pony tail, I wet the hair first. (Just dampening it is fine, but whatever works for you.) Then I tie it back and use Garnier Fructis Style Bamboo Flexihold. Adjust with some water, and my hair is good to go. I've also used one of their hair gel spray product (I'd rather not put globs of gel on my hands, haha) and that worked fine as well. I know that to make your hair stay in a specific hair part you should pin it for a few days, so I don't see why your hair wouldn't stay back with the gel/product either. It might take a lot longer though.
