What does flat-ironing your hair with hair gel do for you?
So, let's say that I put some hair gel or something like that in my hair and then straighten it with my flat-iron. What would be the difference from straightening your hair with and without gel? Would it help keep your hair in place by flat-ironing with gel?

- It will fry your hair.
- uhh... i dont think so... one time i for got to wash the gel out of my hair then i straightened it. the gel turned all white and flakey and made my hair look darndruffy and greasy. just use some hair spray to hold it in place...
- Don't do it. The gel will probably burn as you are flat-ironing it and I suspect that it will damage your hair. And no it probably wont keep your hair in place but rather make it smelly because of the scorching gel and you will most likely ruin your flat-iron in some way because of the gel. Straightening you hair without gel can dry it out and cause split-ends if you use it at too high a temperature, but there are products out there that are heat shields for when you flat-iron your hair. Overall, just don't try straightening your hair with gel because you will, more likely than not, have a bad turnout.
